Introducing Two New & Improved SDKs

We are happy to announce the introduction of two new and improved StartApp SDKs: the updated InApp SDK and the InApp Plus SDK. Below, we explain each SDK and what they offer in addition to an in-depth explanation for why we decided to implement these changes:

Updated InApp SDK:

In addition to our banner ads, full-page ads, and app walls, the updated InApp SDK includes our new and improved Slider ad unit and our new Native Ad unit.

Though similar to our old Search Box SDK, the Slider ad unit does not make any changes to the user’s browser settings. Slider ads will take the form of our familiar slider menu, which the user can swipe open from the side of their screen. From this menu, the user can browse through a list of free apps whenever they choose.

Introducing Native Ads!

We are proud to announce the release of our newest ad type, the Native ad!

The newest addition to our InApp SDK, our Native Ad template will give you the freedom to design advertisements that can mimic the look and feel of your application’s native user interface. By taking the components that we provide in our native ads bundle, you can create an advertisement that will not only match the look of your app but also match the layout, content, and functionality.

When using our Native Ad template, you will receive a bundle containing a set of generic native ad components such as: an app icon in 4 different sizes, an app name, an app category, an app rating, and an app description, and more. You can mix and match these 5 different pieces to create an advertisement that blends in seamlessly with your app.

StartApp at Mobile World Congress

Posted on March 10th, 2014 by
 MWC-Keynote-Zuckerberg-43

We were very excited to attend Mobile World Congress this year in Barcelona!

Eight members of our StartApp team manned our 6-meter high booth, equipped with two giant touchscreens which were loaded with awesomely addictive mobile games. (Rumors are that the Flappy Bird high score was 57)

We were set up in the “App Planet” hall, and had a great time meeting with and talking to everyone who had a chance to stop by our booth. We were also blown away by the amazing exhibitions set up by our fellow “App Planet” exhibitors, and it was great to see what kind of developments and innovations were emerging from all corners of the mobile app industry.

Some of the biggest news out of MWC14: Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook was scheduled to make the keynote address. During his keynote, Zuckerberg spent time talking about and hyping up Facebook’s acquisition of the messaging service WhatsApp, noting that the company would continue “operate autonomously” and that Facebook would not interfere with any privacy policies (a big concern for WhatsApp users). Zuckerberg then went on to talk about Internet.org, an initiative aimed at bringing mobile internet into the developing world, or, as Zuckerberg called it, “connecting the next billion”.

We are proud to announce our long-awaited iOS SDK!

iOS SDK:

StartApp is no longer Android-only! Our new iOS SDK offers eye-catching banner ads and full-page interstitials, along with our familiar app OfferWall which is available as a 2D graphic or a highly engaging 3D graphic.

Each ad type is specifically optimized for the iOS user interface, integrating seamlessly into the iOS design experience. Each ad type works in both portrait mode and landscape mode, keeping graphics sharp and eliminating the dreaded “stretched screen” effect.

Introducing: Two Brand New Ad Types!

Posted on February 3rd, 2014 by
 69jzo

We have been working tirelessly to perfect our In App SDK, so today we are incredibly proud to introduce our two newest ad units: the Splash ad and the Overlay ad.

Overlay Ads

The Overlay ad adds a unique and engaging entrance animation and uses a transparent background so that the user interface of the app is shown behind the ad. Overlay ads will appear in rotation with our regular full-page ads!

Splash Ads

The Splash ad is designed to appear when a user launches an application. With the Splash ad, developers set up a splash screen which is then followed by one of our Overlay ads. The splash screen is completely customizable for developers. You can choose the color and text, or you can use your own custom loading screen prior to the advertisement.

Each new ad type offers eye-catching animations that will encourage users to engage with the ads, and higher user engagement leads to high eCPM!

StartApp developers can download the latest version of our In App SDK on the developer portal.

We looked through our data from this year to see which blog posts our readers liked the best. Below are the top 10 most popular blog posts in 2013, ranked from least popular to the most popular.

Android, iOS, or Windows Phone?

In this post, we outlined the pros and cons of developing for each of the top 3 operating systems. What did we learn? The growth of Android is impossible to stop, but developers still have a difficult time earning money. Apple is losing chunks of the market share each quarter, but still pays a lot of money to developers. Windows Phone is in a very, very distant third place but has a promising future.
